There are several reasons as to why we decided to go with LGBT+ as the acronym of the group.

1. It includes the four 'traditional' groups historically part of the acronym.

    - Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender are the most recognized groups within the acronym, and we pay tribute to these groups' involvement in the inciting incident on the discussion of equal rights, the Stonewall Riots.

2. It lacks 'Q' for Queer.

    - Although this term means anybody who is not cisgender or straight, for some in the community it is offensive and still used as a slur in some countries.

3. It is inclusive.

    - We keep the traditional acronym while acknowledging the expansion and modernization of the non-cis/straight community with the +.1.
